The Gold Coast has apartment blocks and hotels extending as far as the eye can see. So it seems a logical assumption that there is plenty of accommodation available and the need to book early is a myth perpetuated by the accommodation industry... and that assumption is totally WRONG! A quick reality check
shows that accommodation available for casual holiday booking is
actually quite a small portion of the total for the following reasons.
So when you are advised to book early, it's for a very good reason... you may well miss out if you don't! The most common reason why holiday makers fail to secure a booking, or miss out on their preferred accommodation, is that the enquiry was made too late.
High Season is the Xmas - New Year holiday period. Dates vary between locations and between properties, but its generally from around the 20th Dec to 20th Jan. Book at least 4-5 months in advance. Some people recommend even earlier in the very popular locations. Mid Season is usually the Easter long week end plus the September - October school holidays. Some properties also include the June - July school holidays. Book at least 3-4 months in advance. The Indy 300 Motor Race carnival is usually charged at mid-season rates although some track-side properties charge premium rates. Special events such as the Wintersun Festival at Coolangatta and the Gold Coast Marathon usually have mid-season rates.
Low Season is all other dates. Availability is generally not a problem
at these times, but booking 60 days in advance is strongly recommended as
there are numerous festivals and events throughout the year that result in
increased demand for lodgings. |
